VOLUNTEER HALL OF FAME

Sahana Ramani

Throughout the summer, Sahana conducted a workshop, titled Communication Gear, for students from underprivileged communities. Working with an organization called Cornerstones, she used her experience in debate and public speaking to teach children from grades 4-9 the importance of effective listening, articulate communication, and critical thinking. The workshop started with basic games and activities to introduce students to the idea of speaking in front of their peers and ended with professional speeches by the students. They were taught the basic format of debate, worked in teams to come with arguments, and shared them with the class. Sahana firmly believes that communication is the key to success. With the heavy emphasis placed on STEM skills now days, she believes that soft skills are often overlooked. However, equipped strong communication skills, students can attain success in any academic field. She is very thankful for the opportunity to work with these students and eager to continue teaching during the school year.
